The Art of Cosmetology Exhibition

The Art of Cosmetology was presented at the Nicolet College Art Gallery in Rhinelander, Wisconsin as part of the college’s “The Art of…” exhibition series, highlighting the intersection of occupational training and visual arts.

This collaborative exhibition explored the artistry within hair, makeup, and cosmetic design — where technical skill meets creative expression.

Shelley Novotny contributed “Holiday Inspired Headdress and Costume Design,” integrating sculptural adornment, festive materials, and expressive styling. The exhibit also featured collaborative photography by Amanda Anderson Creative, makeup artistry by Faces by Christina, and modeling by Emily King-Ryden and Christina Bayer.

The exhibition celebrated beautification as art form — revealing the creative depth behind cosmetology and honoring the craftsmanship inherent in aesthetic transformation.
