Maiden • Mother • Crone is a mixed media wall installation exploring the evolving phases of womanhood — youth, transformation, resilience, and embodied wisdom.
Constructed from thrifted vintage bras that have been eco-dyed and crystallized to create a textured, salt-worn surface, the piece incorporates reclaimed lace, fabric fragments, handwritten notes, and found objects. Each element carries the imprint of lived experience — garments once intimate, now elevated into witness.
The Maiden appears in delicate lace and subtle bursts of color — awakening, innocence, the first shaping of identity.
The Mother carries structure softened by wear — devotion, sacrifice, transformation, and the quiet shift into self-reclamation.
The Crone holds a faux breast prosthesis, speaking to resilience, survival, and the wisdom that comes through change. The prosthesis and its pink carrying case were gifted to the artist by a woman met at Northwoods Pride, who asked only that it be transformed into meaningful art. This element anchors the work not only in archetype, but in lived story.
These are no longer undergarments. They are memory. They are identity. They are record.
Exhibited in the 38th Annual Northern National Art Competition at Nicolet College Art Gallery, this piece stands as both installation and offering — honoring the sacred cycles of the feminine body and the strength carried within its transitions.
