Project 1: Phoenix Rising

This photographic series captures the embodied expression of Phoenix Rising as created for Nate Sheppard’s documentary. Through elemental textures, layered adornment, and grounded yet powerful presence, the imagery reflects transformation not as performance — but as lived experience.

Fire is symbolic here, but the rising is real.

Each image holds the tension between vulnerability and strength, ash and ascension, surrender and sovereignty. The wearable art becomes both armor and offering — a visual language of rebirth shaped by reclaimed materials, earth tones, and movement.

This series documents a threshold moment: the claiming of creative authority and the quiet, undeniable return to self.

Phoenix Heart — Becoming

I was not born from fire alone.
I was born from stillness.
From the quiet moment
when I stopped reaching outward
and turned, finally, toward myself.

For a long time,
my love flowed away from me
like a river that forgot its source.
I remember who I was
before the giving,
before the forgetting.

But beneath the ash,
something waited.
Not broken.
Not defeated.
Only dormant.

The phoenix did not rise in rage
or in desperation.
She rose when I chose to stand still
and listen.

In that stillness,
I reclaimed my breath.
I gathered my fragments.
I remembered my name.

And the fire came gently.
Not to destroy—
but to illuminate.

From the ashes of old versions,
I emerged whole.

Wings unfurled not in escape,
but in truth.

I no longer seek love to complete me.
I carry it within my chest,
steady and alive.

A living flame.
This is not survival.
This is sovereignty.
I am the phoenix
who rises because she knows herself.

I am the fire
that no longer burns away—
but becomes light.

And here I stand,
rooted, radiant, free.
Not reborn from pain,
but from power.
